Marine Science Institute goes virtual

The Marine Science Institute's research vessel, the Robert Brownlee.

With distance learning in place at most California schools, the Marine Science Institute is offering online programs to help teachers bolster their science and watershed education. Offerings include the following Online Inland Voyages.

  • SF Bay Fish: Students explore and learn all about the incredible fish species in the San Francisco Estuary habitat.
  • SF Bay Invertebrates: Students discover and learn all about the unique marine animals residing at the muddy floor of the San Francisco Bay.
  • SF Bay Sharks and Rays: Students explore sharks and their cartilaginous relatives with an emphasis on the relationship these animals have to their San Francisco Bay and coastal environments.
  • Rocky Shore: Students take a virtual journey to the tide pools to explore the rugged habitat and the resilient animals that call this ever-changing coastal environment their home.

All Online Inland Voyages are 55 minutes in length, delivered live by an MSI Science Instructor via Zoom. Voyages utilize MSI video footage, Google Slides, Nearpod and other learning tools. Voyages are available for second grade and up, and incorporate Next Generation Science Standards.

Program cost is $75 per session for 15 students, with additional cost for up to 30 students max. Special booking rates are available for September. For more information or to book an Inland Voyage, visit https://www.sfbaymsi.org/school-programs-booking-form.
